What can I expect during a facial treatment?
Your treating Skin & Laser Therapist will perform a series of stages in your facial treatment, starting with cleansing to prepare your skin, then moving through the steps relevant to your specific facial.
These steps could include exfoliation extraction, lymphatic drainage, application of eye and face masks, facial and/or décolleté massage, and finally application of skincare tailored to your requirements.
You can expect to be in a relaxed, pleasant state as your Skin & Laser Therapist performs these steps of your facial treatment. Some treatment elements, such as extraction, may prompt some temporary, mild discomfort, which quickly subsides.
For during your treatment, you will be invited to lay down on a dermal therapy bed, and if you have long hair, we will provide you with a fabric headband to ensure your face is kept clear during your facial treatment.
Depending on your type of facial, you may be required to remove your top or shirt to avoid contact with any skincare products, and to allow for your face, neck and décolleté massage. We will provide you with towels for modesty and comfort.
How often should I get a facial treatment?
There’s no compulsory frequency for having facials and they can be enjoyed often as part of your self-care and grooming routine.
If you have specific skin concerns or goals, it’s best to discuss this with your Skin & Laser Therapist so they can recommend an effective treatment plan for you.
It may be recommended to allow a few weeks between treatments to allow cell turnover, repair and rejuvenation to take effect. Or you may be advised to keep up your facial treatments on a regular basis to reach your complexion goals.
Are there any side effects of facial treatments?
Depending on the type of facial you have received, and the condition of your skin, different results may be experienced between different people.
Your treating Skin & Laser Therapist will thoroughly assess your skin and provide advice on what can be expected from your results, as well as any temporary side effects that are likely. These effects are usually very brief and minimal, and facials rarely require downtime.
Some patients may experience some redness immediately after having extraction as part of their facial, as this process causes minor, temporary inflammation in the spot-treated areas. This goes away within 8 hours.
It’s possible you may experience a breakout following a deep cleansing facial. This is nothing to be concerned about – it’s a positive sign of clarification, as your skin is successfully purging itself of toxins or blockages.
Can facial treatments be combined with other skincare services?
Yes, and we encourage it! Facials can provide an excellent boost to the integrity of your skin, thereby supporting and working in harmony with other treatments.
It’s best to ask your treating Skin & Laser Therapist for their recommendation on which treatments will be suitable to have in conjunction with one another, as they will assess your skin and can explain any potential complications of combining modalities.
How do I maintain my skin post-treatment?
Aftercare and maintenance will depend on the type of facial you had and your skin’s condition. You can prolong the results of your facial by using proper cosmeceutical skincare products in your at-home regimen.
Following some intensive facials, or any resurfacing treatment, your skin will be more delicate or vulnerable than usual, especially for around 7–10 days after treatment.
That’s why it’s crucial that you are careful to avoid UV exposure. Wearing sunscreen is an obvious solution. If you prefer not to apply anything to your face straight after your facial, ensure you stay indoors and out of sunlight.
Make sure you incorporate exfoliation into your weekly routine (but not for the first two weeks after your treatment while skin is still sensitised).
Don’t use any moisturisers or serums that contain comedogenic ingredients – these are the ones that block your pores, leading to congestion.
Your Skin & Laser Therapist will recommend a bespoke skincare regimen tailored to your unique needs, so be sure to follow this diligently for your best results.
