When should I get dermal fillers?
As soon as you’re noticing a structural change in your face and don’t like the ageing effect it has on your facial aesthetic, you are a good candidate for dermal filler treatments.
Decreasing collagen and elastin production, and the slipping of fat pads beneath the dermis, all contribute to a loss of tautness in the skin, resulting in loose, sagging skin and a drooping of facial features.
Once this process begins, you might consider having our dermal filler treatment. We can assess your concerns and tailor a treatment plan especially for you, depending on the exact areas you have noticed changing.
Perhaps you’re noticing more prominent wrinkles and creases in the lower region of your face, which is usually due to the skin becoming lax with age, and from loss of structure beneath the surface.
This can affect people of all ages, in various areas of the face, and can be due to genetics.
How many units of filler will I need?
The amount of filler needed can vary for each individual case.
This is depending on the area being treated, the severity of the concern being treated, the patient’s desired outcome, and the individual characteristics of the patient.
Generally, we use about 2mls of dermal filler per side for treating the marionette lines.
However, this quantity can increase/decrease based on the above factors.
During your initial complimentary consultation, your clinician will ask you about your aesthetic goals to determine the exact quantity of dermal filler required for your treatment.
What causes marionette lines?
Over time, collagen and elastin become depleted naturally, and we are then left with less and less of the stuff needed to make our skin soft, bouncy, plush and stretchy.
When this happens, we experience skin laxity as a result, meaning that our skin won’t bounce back the way it used to, or defy the effects of gravity.
Marionette lines, the creases running from the corner of the mouth to the chin, are usually formed by sagging of the skin in the lower face region.
What are other treatment options for marionette lines?
- Skin resurfacing, such as chemical peels or laser resurfacing can make the appearance of marionette lines much less noticeable.
- Thread lifting helps to lift sagging skin in the mid-cheek area. Lax skin is what causes the formation of marionette lines, so restoring tension and improving skin laxity can eradicate the appearance of lines.
- PDO threads can help to plump out the marionette lines, and encourage new collagen production in the treated area.
