Treat Skin Damage or Scarring with Fraxel Laser

Skin Damage or scarring can have a devastating and lifelong impact on people who have suffered traumatic injuries. While scars aren’t dangerous for your health, they tend to cause tremendous discomfort due to their appearance. People of all ages struggle to find an efficient solution to the problem. The range of treatments available is impressive, ranging from peels and micro-needling to fillers and microsurgery. Unfortunately, only a few of them are capable of achieving the required outcome. One of the latest solutions for scarring and skin damage is the Fraxel laser. The device creates microscopic injury to the skins deeper layers. The skin reacts to this controlled micro-damage by producing new healthy cells to heal the damage and replace the old tissue. This technique works for a variety of skin issues including unwanted pigmentation, sun damage, visibly aged skin, acne scars, surgical scarring, traumatic scars, fine lines and wrinkles among many other common skin complaints.

  • reduction of unwanted pigmentation and other skin imperfections
  • removal of acne scars
  • lift and tightens skin
  • softening of fine lines and wrinkles
  • reduction of skin damage
  • reduction of scar post-operation
  • improving overall skin tone

How Does Fraxel Laser Treatment Work?

As the body ages, the appearance and characteristics of the skin change. The outer layer of the skin becomes thinner so blemishes become more visible and the collagen in the skin is gradually lost which contributes to the formation of facial lines, sagging skin, and wrinkles.

The Fraxel laser system uses fractional laser resurfacing technology in which only a fraction of the skin receives laser light. The energy from Fraxel laser stimulates an intensive collagen renewal and resurfaces a variety of skin issues, such as fine lines and wrinkles, unwanted pigmentations, all types of scarring, and overall skin rejuvenation.

The Fraxel laser works by producing thousands of microscopic treatment zones that penetrate deep into the dermis that stimulate the growth of new, healthy skin cells to replace old, damaged cells. Fraxel laser creates a controlled micro-damage to the skin’s deeper layers to induce an intensive healing process that boosts collagen and elastin production resulting in newer, fresher, more beautiful skin.

At Contour Clinics, we use the Fraxel Dual Laser, which features two lasers with different wavelengths in one device. One targets pigmentation and sun damage, while the other goes deeper to target wrinkles, texture and acne scarring.

What Are the Benefits of Fraxel Treatment?

Fraxel laser therapy is a procedure that resurfaces and rejuvenates the skin by stimulating the growth of collagen and new, healthy skin cells from the inside out and has been approved by the TGA and FDA as a treatment for wrinkles, acne/surgical scars, pigmentation, and general skin resurfacing.

The treatment is becoming more popular because of its numerous benefits which include:

  • It's a less invasive treatment. This means that no surgery or injections are required so there is no real downtime, you can go back to your normal routines post-procedure making it a convenient treatment method.
  • Most people who have early signs of aging can benefit from Fraxel laser treatment as the procedure is effective in improving skin texture, tightness and evening out skin tone.
  • Issues such as wrinkles around the eyes, fine lines, enlarged-pores, sunspots, and freckles can all be eliminated with this laser treatment.
  • Fraxel laser treatment will boost and stimulate the production of new collagen that provides a rejuvenated appearance and youthful-looking skin. You can get amazing results in just one session.
  • The Fraxel laser device contains an integrated cooling system that makes the procedure far more pleasant than traditional devices, easing any discomfort that may be experienced.
  • Reducing the appearance and smoothing out several types of scars such as acne scars, surgical and traumatic scars.

What Are the Risks of Fraxel Treatment?

The procedure has been clinically proven safe and approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Australian Therapeutic Goods administration for a number of treatments for the face, neck, chest, and hands.

After the procedure, you may experience a mild sunburn sensation lasting 1-2 hours. You can also expect to have mild to moderate redness and swelling that usually resolves within 24 hours but can sometimes persist for 48 hours. You may also experience what we call ‘bronzing’ on the skin which is where you can see the mark left behind by the laser, this can last one to two weeks but is not very noticeable. The risk of infection and scarring is very rare and uncommon. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is also rare in lighter skin types but can be as high as 10% in those of darker skin types. We recommend using a pigment inhibiting cream for 2 weeks prior to any laser treatment if you are a darker skin type (Fitzpatrick 3 and above).
