Anti-Wrinkle Injectables in Sydney

Wrinkles; do not get us started. If you’re anything like us, you have done everything in your power to hold back the oncoming march of the dreaded wrinkle.

We’ve used every lotion and potion out there, kept our makeup game strong and drink gallons of water to try and stay looking fresh.

Our face is our calling card, and wanting to look your best and feel fabulous is a form of self care.

If you’ve exhausted almost every avenue but you’re not willing to take surgical measures, it can feel like you’re fighting a losing battle.

The secret to youthful looking skin: Anti-wrinkle injections

Thankfully, Contour Clinics is here to take care of you. Our team of highly trained professionals understands your frustrations and has the perfect solution.

We specialise in anti-wrinkle injections in Sydney that can help you maintain a more youthful appearance. We’re here to eradicate your wrinkle concerns.

But doesn't anti-wrinkle look unnatural?

No! Or, at least, good anti-wrinkle injections don’t.

We know what you’re worried about. We’ve all seen the botched jobs, the oddly frozen celebrity features, the eerie lack of expression. Here’s the truth: anti wrinkle cosmetic injectables are safe, effective and do not paralyse your face. Unfortunately, there are some practitioners out there that have (deliberately or not) administered too much or done so incorrectly.

So, we’ve put together our top tips to getting great results from your facial anti wrinkle injections in Sydney.

  1. Use a licenced clinic with a proven track record
This is the most important point, which is why we put it first. Contour Clinics was founded by Dr Josh Wall. Dr Wall graduated top of his class and went on to win prizes in multiple fields. Dr Wall is our Medical Director and has been published a number of times in leading women’s magazines, cosmetic medicine publications and peer reviewed journals. Our clinic has been featured in well-known magazines such as Vogue, Woman’s Day and Take5. Most importantly, we are regulated by the TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) and our procedures are carried out by qualified professionals under the supervision of top medical practitioners. Any clinic you use should have these markers of excellence, always ask for credentials and evidence of great practice.
  2. Consult with your clinic about how to achieve the best results for you
At Contour Clinics we specialise in creating a look that is completely natural. That means a natural lift and smoothing effect, which allows all the normal facial functions and does not look like a procedure has been done at all. This is achieved by targeting the right areas with the right amount of product. Drop into the clinic, or simply send us an enquiry with photos attached, and we can begin the process of finding the right cosmetic injectable treatments and areas to target for best effect. Remember, less is often more, and a good clinician will give you honest advice about the right amount of placement and product to achieve a natural look.
  3. Listen to the aftercare advice
One of the great things about anti-wrinkle injections is that the treatment can take less than 15 minutes, results are visible in less than a week and last up to four months. You can normally continue with any activity moments after your appointment, but there are just a few dos and don’ts to listen to. It’s important that you take your clinician’s advice and follow proper aftercare for best results.

Individualised anti-wrinkle injections How many units of anti-wrinkle do I need?

Not everyone is the same when it comes to anti-wrinkle injections. The larger the area and the stronger the muscle, the more units of anti-wrinkle required.

Don’t settle for cookie-cutter approaches when it comes to your face. Get a complimentary personalised assessment of the exact quantity of anti-wrinkle units required to create your ideal look.

Treatment Areas

Forehead Lines

Forehead lines can make you look older and more tired than you are. They are caused by overactivity of the frontalis muscle, which is the primary muscle of the forehead.

With repeated muscle movement over time, deep horizontal forehead lines can form, and even stay visible when the face is relaxed.

As the forehead makes up a substantial part of the face, anti-wrinkle injections to smooth this area can make a dramatic difference to the overall facial aesthetic.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do anti-wrinkle injections cost in Sydney?

It depends on the number of units injected. The number of units required depends on the strength of the muscles involved in creating your wrinkles.

The price per unit of Anti-Wrinkle B varies from $10-18 per unit depending on the clinic. For a forehead you need anywhere from 8 to 20 units costing you anywhere from $80-360 depending on the clinic, and strength of your muscles.

Contour Clinics prides itself on providing high-end service and results for patients with a mid-low budget.

Our prices

Anti-wrinkle injections come in 3 brands.

Here at Contour Clinics we only use the most popular two brands, as we find these are by far the most effective. Beware clinics offering you cheap products. You may find you get what you pay for.

Anti-wrinkle A = $3.99

Anti-wrinkle B = $12.99

If we use Anti-wrinkle A as an example, the rough average cost per area:

  • Forehead = $99
  • Frown lines = $129-159
  • Crows feet = $129-159

This is an average cost based on usual dosing for the average female. It may be more or less expensive depending on your facial muscle strength. Male prices are usually 25-50% more expensive, as their facial muscles are much stronger.

How long does anti-wrinkle last?

The results last between 3 and 4 months. Those who have treatments regularly may find they can go longer durations between treatments, often out to 6-12 months.

If you decide anti-wrinkle injections don’t suit you, you can rest assured that the treated area will gradually return to its pre-treatment appearance.

Will the treatments hurt?

Anti-wrinkle injections are one of the least uncomfortable cosmetic treatments.

Treatments themselves take a matter of minutes, and we practice all available injection techniques to reduce discomfort.

Our clinics use ultra-thin needles to decrease any discomfort you may experience during treatments.

Topical anaesthetic can be used to numb the skin prior to the injection process. (Note: the numbing process takes 30 mins in total and will therefore require you to attend your appointment 30 minutes early.)

Will anyone know I've had anti-wrinkle injections?

At Contour Clinics, we specialise in a natural-looking result. We inject the minimum amount required to give a pleasantly aesthetic result without giving a frozen appearance.

Anti-wrinkle injectables work over 3-10 days, and the results and any changes will occur slowly and subtly. People may note you look more refreshed or less tired without knowing why.

How can I ensure the longest lasting result?

There are four important considerations:

  • Expertise of injector
    • Intimate knowledge of facial anatomy is essential. Expertly placed injections can ensure not one unit is wasted, and complications are kept to a minimum.
  • Dosage requirements
    • Overdosing can cause heaviness and increased risk of complications
    • Under-dosing can cause a poor cosmetic result and short-lived results
    • Dosing depends on the strength of the muscle and should be individualised for each patient. The dose required for a 100kg man, will be very different to a 50kg female. There is no one size fits all.
  • Brand of anti-wrinkle
    • There are three brands in Australia approved by the TGA for anti-wrinkle product. They vary significantly in cost price. Some clinics push inferior products to increase their profit. Ensure you are treated with only premium products.
  • Freshness of product
    • Anti-wrinkle vials contain no preservatives. Hence, once a vial is opened and reconstituted, it must be used within 24 hours. The potency of the product decreases substantially after this time period. Ensure you are treated with fresh product at every visit.

When will I see results?

Depending on the product used, it can take 2-5 days to see results from anti-wrinkle treatments. Full results are noticeable in 2 weeks.

What is the downtime for anti-wrinkle injections?

This treatment requires no downtime, often referred to as a ‘lunchtime procedure’. It is performed in-clinic, taking only 5 minutes. You are able to return to your daily routine immediately after treatments without anyone knowing you have had anything done.

Can you get anti-wrinkle and fillers on the same day?

The short answer is yes. Although, there are certain areas of the face where caution needs to be exercised.

Filler can cause swelling in the treated area. Swelling can increase the risk of the anti-wrinkle product travelling to an undesirable place. This can increase the risk of complications such as brow or eyelid drooping.

Provided the filler is not placed in the same area that the anti-wrinkle is injected, there should be no issue having them done on the same day.

There may be occasions when your injector may suggest waiting 2 weeks between wrinkle reduction and dermal filler treatments. This will be discussed with you in your initial consultation.

Do anti-wrinkle injections make your eyes smaller?

No. If anything, relaxing the Orbicularis oculi muscle that surrounds the eye will relax eye muscles, in turn causing a widening of the eyes. This can lead to a more alert, awake appearance.

What are the potential side effects?

Side effects are rare with this type of treatment. The injections act at the intended site, with no absorption into the blood stream. Immediately afterwards, minor side effects such as redness, swelling, and itching are common. These rarely last more than minutes to hours. These effects do not prevent patients from returning to work and other normal activities immediately after leaving our office. Uncommonly patients may experience short-lived side effects including:

  • Bruising is uncommon. It is usually minimal and lasts anywhere from 1-4 days. It is easily covered with makeup. At Contour, we specialise in post procedural LED light therapy to decrease the risk of bruising. If bruising does unfortunately occur, we have the latest in laser technology to speed the bruise healing process.
  • Eyelid drooping “Ptosis” is rare and lasts 3 weeks. It is prevented by proper injection technique, and adherence to aftercare instructions. In the rare case this does occur, eye drops may be prescribed, and a brow lift treatment may be provided at no cost to you.
  • In our hands, eyebrow drooping is rare. It is usually caused by poor injection technique, or overuse of product. It can be corrected by an eye-lifting procedure

Who cannot have anti-wrinkle injections?

Whilst most adults who are in overall good health are suitable, there are some exceptions.

These include:

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding. Many women have inadvertently used anti-wrinkle injections during pregnancy with no reported adverse effects. However, at this point in time there is no established safety data on their use in pregnancy or lactation.
  • Neuromuscular disorders such as Myasthenia Gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome.
  • Those with previous allergy to anti-wrinkle injections.

What should you not do after having anti-wrinkle injections?

Where the product is injected is where you want it to stay. The following instructions are to decrease the risk of the anti-wrinkle product moving south and causing drooping brows/eyelids or ending in a poor cosmetic result. These are some general rules post anti-wrinkle injections:

  • Avoid rubbing or massaging treated areas for 5 days. Gentle cleansing is fine.
  • Avoid excessive alcohol consumption on the day of treatment.
  • Avoid strenuous activity for 24 hours.
  • Avoid laying flat for 4 hours post treatment.
  • Avoid facial treatments including lasers, peels, needling, waxing for one week post treatment.

How long after anti-wrinkle injections can I wash my face?

You can gently wash your face immediately after treatment.

The key here is to be gentle and to avoid facial massage or pressure.

When can I wear makeup after anti-wrinkle injections?

You may apply makeup 24 hours after your treatment. This is to allow healing of the tiny pin points caused by the injections.

Applying makeup sooner than this can increase your risk of infection post treatment.

Are anti-wrinkle injections toxic to the body?

When received in doses administered in cosmetic medicine, no. It is safe in small doses.

The same product used in cosmetic medicine is used in other areas of medicine. For example, it’s also used for relaxing contracted muscles in a child with Cerebral palsy. Children as young as 2 years old often receive doses 20-50 times larger than one would receive in a usual cosmetic treatment.

This demonstrates the low impact and safety of anti-wrinkle injections when used in cosmetic doses.

What happens as anti-wrinkle injections begin to wear off?

The result generally lasts 3-4 months.

As its effects wear off, the skin will return to its natural, pre-treatment state.

If you decide against further injections, your skin will be left in the same condition it was before treatment; it will not be any more wrinkled than it was before treatment.

Will I still be able to make facial expressions?

One of the worries many patients express is that the injections will make it impossible for them to move their faces.

While muscle relaxants do reduce the muscle activity causing wrinkles and expression lines, when used correctly they should not affect your ability to frown, look surprised, and make other facial movements.

When overdone, muscle relaxants do have a tendency to cause a frozen appearance. At Contour Clinics, our medical professionals are skilled at using precisely the correct amount of product. You will not look as though you’ve had ‘work done’ and you will still be able to move your facial muscles naturally.

Is there anything I should avoid after my treatment?

Anti-wrinkle is a quick and safe procedure that has little impact on your usual daily activity post treatment.

However, to allow anti-wrinkle to work optimally in the target muscles, the following precautions are suggested:

  • No rubbing or massage of treated areas for at least 48 hours.
  • No strenuous exercise for 24 hours after treatments.
  • Keep upright for 4 hours post treatment.
  • Avoid tightly fitted headwear within 24 hours of treatment.
  • Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen and excessive alcohol for 24 hours either side of the treatment to lower risk of bruising.

Are anti-wrinkle injections just for women?

No. Many men benefit from these wrinkle reduction treatments.

Our male patients frequently request muscle relaxant or dermal filler injections on their forehead, between their brows, and on other areas of their face they feel show signs of ageing.
