How do fat dissolving under chin injections work?
These injections use a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, which is one of the natural substances our body uses to absorb dietary fats. Our medical professionals inject the TGA approved substance into the tissues under the chin. Treatments are administered with ultra-thin injections to the desired area. This disrupts fat cell membranes, allowing the body to safely metabolise and excrete fats naturally. Once disrupted, fat cells are unable to store any further fats, leading to permanent results.
Are fat dissolving injections safe?
Yes. These have been approved as safe and effective by the FDA and TGA for use in dissolving fat under the chin (Submental fat).
Risks associated with this treatment are rare.

The most common are swelling and occasional bruising that resolve over the course of 2 weeks.
How long do under chin fat dissolving injections take to perform?
Under chin injections take 2-3 minutes depending on the degree of under chin fullness.
Before these injections take place we mark out the treatment zone, taking care to avoid important anatomical structures. Your cosmetic expert will then completely numb the area with local anaesthetic to ensure your comfort during treatments.

Do fat dissolving injections hurt?
At Contour Clinics we ensure your comfort at each step of the process. Using a combination of numbing cream and local anaesthetic, we ensure discomfort is kept to an absolute minimum.
Fat dissolving injections can be incredibly painful if local anaesthetic is not used. We believe local anaesthetic is mandatory when injecting this area.
Once the local anaesthetic wears off in 1-2 hours you may feel a slight discomfort or ache. This is uncommon and can be helped with paracetamol and icing to the treatment area.
Do fat dissolving injections get rid of cellulite?

Currently, the use of fat dissolving injections are limited to small areas. We don’t recommend treating large areas.
Who can't have fat dissolving injections?
You are unable to have fat dissolving injections if you are:
- pregnant
- breastfeeding
- have a hypersensitivity/allergy to fat dissolving injections
- have an active infection/skin condition over the area to be treated

How fast do fat dissolving injections work?
Fat dissolving injections work by dissolving fat cell membranes using deoxycholic acid. This is a substance present naturally in our digestive tract.
Once fat cell membranes are destroyed, your body’s immune system clears them away over the course of 6-12 weeks.
Full results are seen 3 months after your treatments.
Who can administer fat dissolving injections?
Fat dissolving injections are a schedule 4 prescription medication. This means a prescription from a medical doctor is required prior to treatment. In Australia, only medical doctors, or registered nurses under the supervision of a doctor can administer fat dissolving injections.
Are fat dissolving injections permanent?
Yes. Any fat cells dissolved as a result of treatment are removed permanently.
Are fat dissolving injection results instant?
No. Full results can be seen 3 months post treatment.
How many sessions of fat dissolving injections are required to see full results?
We recommend at least 2 sessions spaced 1 month apart. Some patients with more severe grades of under chin fullness require up to 4 sessions in total.
