Who is a Good Candidate for Q-Switch Laser Treatments?
Unlike most kinds of laser, Q-Switch laser is suitable for all skin types.
How many Q-Switch Laser Treatment sessions are needed?
This will depend on the particular concern being treated, as well as the treatment area’s size and the severity of the concern.
Most patients will require a series of treatment sessions to achieve results and should understand that Q-Switch laser is generally not a standalone one-off treatment.
In some cases, this laser can achieve fast results. For spot-treating specific occurrences of hyperpigmentation such as sun spots, you may only require one or two rounds of Q-Switch laser for the targeted lesion to be broken down and eradicated.
However, for more involved and troublesome conditions such as melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or freckling, usually a minimum of 3-5 sessions are recommended. Patience is key for gaining your desired results.
Is Q-Switch Laser Treatment painful?
No, this treatment is not uncomfortable or painful. It feels rather like a small snapping sensation as the laser is passed over the skin’s surface.
Some patients find the sound emitted by the laser makes it seem more painful than it really is – you will hear a constant popping sound, almost like electricity. There is no pain experienced during the treatment, nor afterwards.
In some cases where a specific, targeted blemish is being treated by the laser, a different intensity may be used and it’s possible that you will feel a slightly stronger snapping sensation, However, this is a very minor discomfort.
This treatment is very well tolerated by most people and doesn’t require any pain relief.
Is Q-Switch Laser Treatment safe?
All medical procedures carry risk. Your Skin & Laser Therapist will discuss this with you during your consultation.
Laser treatments at Contour Clinics, including Q-Switch laser, are all fully approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) for safe use.
Are there any side effects of Q-Switch Laser Treatment?
It’s important that a high-factor SPF sunscreen be worn all day, every day, following any Q-Switch laser treatment. This is because the skin will be more vulnerable and sensitive to UV exposure.
However, considering the cause of the necessity for treatment is often related to UV exposure, diligent use of sun protection is a logical and wise step in any treatment plan, and should be continued.
Also note that blue light, such as that emitted from computer and phone screens, is also a culprit of triggering fussy hyperpigmentation conditions such as melasma, so sunscreen should be worn even if you are indoors.
