How long does the treatment take?

Lip fillers should never be rushed, and take the utmost care in performing this procedure to perfection, as symmetry is crucial to an aesthetically pleasing result.

On average, lip filler injections take about 20 minutes to complete.

What should I do after lip fillers?

It’s crucial that you follow the correct aftercare instructions for lip filler injectables.

Following your lip filler treatment, it’s not so much what to do, rather more about what not to do.

Avoid these things for at least 8 hours after fillers: 

  • Makeup 
  • Touching the injection site 
  • Massaging the injection area, unless directed 
  • Lying on the injection area (try to sleep on your back)

You can minimise the development of bruising by lightly applying a covered ice pack to the skin for no longer than 10 minutes at a time.

Avoid for at least 24 hours following your lip filler treatment: 

  • Strenuous exercise 
  • Alcohol

Avoid for at least 48 hours after lip fillers: 

  • Extreme heat (sun exposure, solarium, sauna, hot showers or baths) 
  • Swimming 
  • Applying excessive pressure to the injection area 

Avoid for at least 2 weeks after your lip filler treatment: 

  • IPL or laser therapies (including laser hair removal) 
  • Facial waxing 
  • Facials 
  • Peels 
  • Dermabrasion

When will I see results and how long do lip fillers last?

Results are immediate; you will be able to enjoy your luscious new lips right away!

With lower quality fillers, the results can only last 3 months or less before breaking down.

At Contour Clinics we use only premium range lip fillers, so the results of our lip enhancements last between 6 and 12 months.

Will I need to come in for lip filler top-ups?

Top-ups are generally not required. Your lip enhancement results will last between 6-12 months.

We offer a complimentary corrective appointment directly after your lip filler treatment in the rare case of asymmetry.

Otherwise, you can expect to enjoy the beautiful results of your lip filler for at least half a year before coming back for your next full treatment.

If you decide not to continue with lip fillers, there will be no permanent change to your lips and you will not have to keep having lip fillers.

We usually see patients choosing to have repeat treatments every 6 to 9 months, as they love their new lip shape and want to maintain the effect originally achieved.

Are lip fillers painful?

Using the latest in injecting technique, lip fillers performed by our practitioners are minimally uncomfortable.

Importantly, we only use lip fillers with a built-in local anaesthetic. This combined with ice packs, numbing cream, and the option of happy gas makes lip enhancement treatments at Contour Clinics the most comfortable available.

What are the risks with lip fillers?

Serious complications of lip fillers are extremely rare.

Patients may experience some swelling and uncommonly bruising post treatment. These settle within 1-3 days and are easily covered by makeup.

We encourage LED light therapy post treatment to decrease the risk of bruising.

Sometimes, we see patients who have had their lip fillers elsewhere, leaving them with an undesirable ‘overdone’ look, and they wish for them to be removed and re-done.
