What are the causes of a double chin?
A double chin is often a result of excess weight gain and fat, which may be genetically determined. That is, those with shorter chins and narrower jaws may show more under-chin fat.
Other factors that can contribute to storing fat under the chin include aging skin, loss of muscular definition, a recessed chin, poor posture, and weakened neck muscles.
Do fat dissolving treatments cause loose skin?
No, fat dissolving treatments should not cause loose skin post-procedure. However, if you already have existing loose skin in the target area, the loss of fat may make this loss of elasticity more apparent. If you have concerns about your skin’s elasticity post-treatment, consider talking with one of our staff members about our skin-tightening treatments.
Are fat dissolving treatments painful?
There is minimal pain involved in our fat-burning treatments, especially since it’s a non-invasive procedure. We also ice the neck before treatment begins to help numb the skin, as well as after to prevent post-procedure warmth.
Topical numbing cream or happy gas (nitrous oxide) can be requested for any concerned patients to reduce discomfort during treatment.
What are the potential side effects of fat dissolving treatments?
There are no major side effects from fat-dissolving treatments.
Swelling is expected around the treatment area, which may peak at the 48 hours post-treatment stage. However, this side effect often settles within a week.
Bruising, itching, slight numbness and sensitivity to pressure and excessive warmth to the treatment site are also common and usually resolve in 3 to 5 days.
If you experience any unexpected or severe side effects, immediately contact your doctor.
