Enhance Natural Appearance with Contour Clinics

Improve overall facial aesthetic and put your naturally best face forward with dermal fillers for your cheeks. Ever increasingly, more people are choosing to naturally enhance their best features and restore lost volume to their cheekbones with premium grade dermal filler.

Dermal fillers for cheeks are a popular treatment for those wanting:

  • Volumise sunken, flattened cheeks
  • Volumise the mid cheek to support the under-eye region (tear trough)
  • Provide structure to the outer cheek bones to contour the cheeks
  • Volumise and overly thin face to reverse a gaunt appearance
  • Aesthetically harmonise the cheeks with surrounding facial features
  • Correct cheek asymmetry
  • For men to masculinise the face
  • For women to feminise facial features

Techniques used for volumising the cheeks vary depending on the area of the cheek treated. There are two main techniques used:

  • Needle- this technique is used predominantly in the outer cheek to create cheek bone structure
  • Cannula – this is a long blunt needle that is usually used for the mid cheek, under eye part of the cheek, or the sub malar (under cheek bone) region of the midface. This is the safest method of dermal filler delivery and has significantly less chance of bruising. Where possible, all dermal filler injections at Contour Clinics are delivered by cannula.

How Do Cheek Dermal Fillers Work?

Cheek dermal fillers are made up of a substance called hyaluronic acid. This is a gel-like substance that is present in our skin naturally. The dermal filler placed in the cheek can be thicker or thinner depending on the goals of treatment and the area of the cheek treated. Thicker filler is used to mimic bone and is placed in the outer part of the cheek to naturally augment your cheek bones. Thinner dermal filler is used in the mid cheek region and under cheek (sub-malar regions), this allows natural volumisation of these areas, whilst avoiding stiffening of normal facial movements.

Cheek fillers work by one of two mechanisms:

  • To provide structure: Placement of thicker filler to the outer cheek provides structure to the cheek bones. This may be to replace structure that has been lost with age, or to create the cheekbone aesthetic you have always desired
  • To volumise: Cheek fillers can be used to replace lost mid face volume, improve the aesthetics of a flattened mid cheek region, support the under-eye tear trough region or to fill out a hollow sub malar (under cheek region).

Once cheek filler is placed, it will not move and slowly dissolves naturally and evenly over the course of 9-18 months.

Frequently Asked Questions

When Can I Expect to See Results from Cheek Fillers?

Results from Cheek Filler treatments are immediate. You may experience a mild degree of swelling post cheek filler. This usually subsides to provide you full results within 2 weeks.

How Long Do Cheek Dermal Fillers Last?

Our premium range of cheek dermal fillers are the longest lasting available. Longevity of your filler depends on where the filler is placed, the thickness of the filler and your metabolism. On average you can expect your cheek filler to last anywhere from 9-18 months.

Characteristics that may cause your dermal filler to not last as long include:

  • The use of thinner dermal filler. This is necessary in areas such as the mid cheek and sub malar (under cheek bone) regions. These areas of the face move normally when talking, smiling etc. Treatment of these areas requires a slightly thinner filler to allow natural movement of the face.
  • Faster metabolism
  • Excessive exercise
  • Placement of dermal filler in areas of high movement (i.e. lips, nasolabial folds)

Do the Cheek Filler Injections Hurt?

Performed in expert hands, cheek fillers are minimally uncomfortable. All dermal filler injections are performed with topical numbing cream and immaculate cosmetic injection technique. We also have the option of nitrous oxide (happy gas) as an added comfort measure.

Are Dermal Fillers for Cheeks Safe?

Yes. Dermal fillers for the cheeks are a safe and effective treatment when performed in expert experienced hands. At Contour Clinics you will be treated to the ultimate in safety and professionalism, with some of Australia’s most respected and highly trained cosmetic injectors.

All cosmetic medical procedures carry risks. While uncommon, these risks may include: swelling, bruising and infection (extremely rare). Your cosmetic injector will explain the risks as they relate to your specific circumstances at your complimentary consultation.

What Precautions Should I Take Before my Cheek Filler Treatment?

Prior to your appointment you should refrain from drinking excessive amounts of alcohol for 24 hours. You should arrive with a face free of make-up and skin care products. You should avoid aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications for 5 days prior to your treatment unless you have been directed otherwise by your GP. Do not stop any prescribed medication.
