Are There Any Side Effects From Anti-Wrinkle Injections?

As with any procedure, anti-wrinkle injections come with potential side effects.

However, they are minor and rare, and avoidable with diligence to proper anti-wrinkle injections aftercare.

It’s unlikely you will experience them but the following post-treatment effects can be possible:

  • Post-treatment redness/tenderness at the injection points (these will reduce within 1-2 hours).
  • Short-lived headaches (you can take paracetamol if required).
  • Mild redness and itching.
  • Bruising occurs in 1 in 20 patients. This can be easily covered with makeup and will resolve within 3-7 days.
  • Asymmetry may be normal in the first 1-2 weeks, as facial regions may respond at varying paces.
  • Rarely, with forehead treatments, you may notice a slight hitching of one of your brows. This is called spocking and is easily corrected with a tiny injection just above the brow. If you notice this, call our clinic and we'll fit you in for a quick touch-up.

Why Is Aftercare Important?

Whatever the area, amount or reason for your anti-wrinkle treatment, it’s crucial that the correct aftercare be followed.

The best way to care for your skin and prolong the effects of your anti-wrinkle treatment is to adhere to these guidelines.

We want you to love the results of your treatment, and proper anti-wrinkle injections aftercare will ensure the efficacy, accuracy and longevity of its effects.

Think of it an investment; you want to maximise its value, and aftercare is your insurance.

About: Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Anti-wrinkle injections act in two ways – they smooth existing fine lines and wrinkles, and they relax the overactive muscle responsible for causing the formation of lines and wrinkles in a particular area.

Relaxing the applicable muscle essentially puts a pause on the ageing process, as it can prevent deeper, more permanent wrinkles from forming.

It’s not all about the surface level either; there are other effective uses for anti-wrinkle injections too. They can also provide a lifting effect to the brows and neck; they help to decrease lower facial fullness by slimming down bulky muscle in the jaw; and they can treat excessive sweating.

Results begin to take effect after 3–5 days and can take up to 14 days to show in full. Results typically last up to three months.
