What is the Trapezius Muscle?

The trapezius muscle is a large back muscle, named for its similarity to a trapezoid shape.

The trapezius is a muscle that starts at the base of your neck, goes across your shoulders and extends to the middle of your back.

Your traps muscle helps you move your head, neck, arms, shoulders and torso. It also stabilises your spine and helps with posture.

An overactive trapezius can happen when we consistently engage that muscle group, even at a low intensity. Because repetitive motions do not allow the affected tissue to rest between movements, overactivity can cause stress and irritation.

Trapezius Slimming Treatment Options

Here at Contour Clinics, we use anti-wrinkle injections for slimming areas that have become overdeveloped due to overactive muscle. We offer this treatment for multiple body areas, including the trapezoids.

Not only effective for freezing movements that cause wrinkles; anti-wrinkle injections are also used for inducing muscle atrophy. This means the muscle is purposely caused to cease activity so that it doesn’t cause any further bulk, and existing muscle bulk has a chance to slim down.

Trapezius Slimming Injections work by targeting the overactive trapezoid muscle, relaxing the muscle to inhibit it from overactivity, and allowing the bulky muscle that’s accumulated to wear down and shrink.

The result is a visible slimming of the treated area. In the case of trapezius, the outcome is a sleeker, elegant appearance for the neck and shoulders with improved definition of the shoulder-to-neck angle. It can also enhance the appearance of good posture.

Non-surgical Trapezius Slimming Treatments

There are a few options for slimming targeted areas of the body, with the most common non-surgical methods being Fat-Dissolving Injections and CoolSculpting (also known as fat freezing).

If you wish to slim down bulkiness in your trapezius, muscle-relaxing slimming injections are the most suitable option, given the fullness in this area of the upper body is almost entirely caused by bulky muscle.

The reason for this is that fat-dissolving or fat-freezing treatments will not be effective in shrinking the trapezius area, as it’s comprised mainly of bone and muscle, not fat deposits.

CoolSculpting works for areas that are accumulating excess fat deposits and are fleshy enough for the CoolSculpting headpiece to ‘grab’ hold of and freeze. The muscular area of the neck and shoulder where your trapezoids are located would not be suitable for treatment by this method.

With anti-wrinkle used as a relaxant for overactive muscles, we can successfully slim an area that would not be responsive to fat loss.
