LED LIGHT THERAPY Key Benefits

LED Therapy works on a cellular level, entering the skin’s layers to accelerate your skin’s natural healing process.  This treatment is highly effective in:

  • Reducing the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles
  • Improving uneven skin tone
  • Combating active acne, redness and rosacea
  • Stimulating collagen production

The Science What is the difference between wavelengths?

LED Light therapy uses different wavelengths of light to deliver therapeutic doses of light energy our skin. When the wavelength is changed our eyes perceive that as a different colour of light.  Shorter wavelengths are perceived as blue, purple or green, and longer wavelengths as yellow, red and infrared.

  • Blue light therapy (450-495nm) penetrates a short distance into the skin, eliminating acne causing bacteria, reducing inflammation and calming redness.
  • Red light therapy (600-700nm) penetrates deeper into the skins dermis and subcutaneous layers calming redness, reducing inflammation and causing an intensive collagen stimulation. It has also been proven to help with fine lines and wrinkles and causes a generally improved skin quality and texture.
  • Infrared light therapy (900-1100nm) penetrates deeper helping with wound healing, collagen stimulation, skin rejuvenation and general skin improvement.

Skin Health

LED therapy provides the perfect foundation to everyday healthy skin and is an essential skin beauty treatment that can refresh complexions. For sustained skin health, it’s recommended to use this treatment a few times a week or at least weekly. Studies show that when using LED Light Therapy skin cells grow 150%-200% faster when exposed to different wavelengths of light.

When the light penetrates down to the targeted cells, a change is caused within that cell. This strengthens the skin’s capillaries, leading to improved oxygenation and detoxification of the skin types. LED can be used multiples times a week to protect, nourish, treat, correct and restore the health of your skin. There are no other aesthetic treatments available that can be used so frequently and achieve such wide-ranging results. This holistic view of skin is unique in addressing both healthy and compromised skin. LED Light Therapy is highly effective in increasing lymphatic flow, boosts your skins protective cells, and enables cells to accept and utilise skincare products more effectively and efficiently, ultimately meaning products last longer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What conditions can be treated with LED phototherapy?

LED phototherapy is the perfect addition to all of our cosmetic treatments. The most common conditions we treat with LED at Contour Clinics include:

  • Acne
  • General skin tiredness and ageing
  • Rosacea
  • After cosmetic injectables to aid in healing and prevent bruising
  • Bruise removal – great when combined with our laser therapies

How does LED light therapy work for acne?

The mechanism of action of LED light therapy in acne treatments is two-fold.

1) Using red LED light therapy, targeted light wavelengths penetrate deep into the skin to improve skin cell function, decrease the skin inflammation associated with active acne and promote healing of acne damaged skin.

2) Using blue LED light therapy, metabolic processes within the proprionibacterium acnes bacteria (a bacteria thought to contribute to the development of acne) are impaired. This can cause an eradication of p.acnes bacteria, significantly improving acne severity, skin tone and texture.

Is LED light therapy good for Rosacea?

Yes.

There are numerous clinical studies that support the success of LED light therapy for the treatment of rosacea.

Targeted LED light wavelengths treat rosacea worsening skin bacteria, while deeper wavelengths improve skin cell metabolism, reducing cellular free radicals and improving skin cell oxygen consumption. This translates into decreased skin inflammation and redness.

What colour LED light is best for the treatment of rosacea?

The simple answer is all of them. Clinical studies on the treatment of rosacea use a combination of red, blue and infrared LED light therapy to successfully treat all layers of the skin, decrease the amount of inflammatory skin bacteria and promote healing of inflamed red skin.

We recommend an alternating course of red and blue light therapy that is at the same time combined with infrared.

Does LED light therapy work for broken capillaries?

Yes. LED light therapy will help decrease the number of newly forming broken capillaries. This occurs by reducing inflammation and decreasing bacterial load on the skin.

To completely remove already formed broken capillaries we suggest IPL or RF pin depending on their location. See our broken capillaries page.
