Skin & Laser Therapist
Yvonne Culhane brings over 20 years experience in beauty and aesthetics, including 17 years specialising in laser and advanced dermal therapies in Australia, to every consultation. As well as clinical practice, her career has spanned clinic management, laser clinical training and treatment development, working closely with doctors, nurses and other aesthetic practitioners at every step.
That experience means Yvonne looks beyond the single treatment a patient initially asks for – considering their skin, concerns, lifestyle, risk factors, previous treatments and longer-term goals before recommending a plan. Experience has also taught her that the newest or most intensive option isn’t automatically the right one for every patient.
Yvonne has always been fascinated with skincare and nutrition, and the internal and external factors that influence how skin looks, functions and ages over time. As technology in the industry advanced, that interest extended into the science behind laser and energy-based treatments. Yvonne’s curiosity motivates her to understand the reasoning behind a treatment, product or ingredient rather than simply following protocol.
She has an interest in vascular conditions, scarring, pigmentation, acne, textural concerns and skin rejuvenation. Yvonne values working collaboratively with Contour Clinics’ medical practitioners on combination treatment planning. Complex cases interest her most – they call for careful assessment, realistic expectations and an individualised plan, often built from a considered combination of treatments and technologies over time rather than a single approach.
There’s an Irish saying that resonates with Yvonne: “Má chuir mé níos mó le do shaol, tá mo chuspóir anseo críochnaithe” – if she’s added something of value to someone’s life, she’s fulfilled her purpose. This captures the reward Yvonne finds in her work.
In consultation, Yvonne is thorough, individualised and honest. She starts by understanding what’s actually concerning her patient, then assesses their skin, medical and treatment history, lifestyle, current skincare and any relevant risk factors, before explaining the options and realistic expectations. She doesn’t believe in treating simply because a treatment is available – if she doesn’t think something is appropriate, or believes a different approach makes more sense, she’ll say so.
No two patients or skin types are exactly alike and every person’s skin responds differently. This is something more than two decades in the industry has reinforced for Yvonne.
Away from the clinic, Yvonne loves hiking, Pilates and values anything that offers balance outside a busy clinical week. Originally from Ireland, she stays closely connected to family, home and Irish culture. She’s also an unapologetic Dungeons & Dragons devotee – after a week spent problem-solving professionally, she finds it oddly relaxing to spend her downtime solving entirely fictional problems instead, one dice roll at a time.
