After 24 years in the aesthetics industry, Muireann O’Connor (known affectionately as Muir) brings the same honest, empathetic take to every patient she sees. No two faces are the same, and Muir prefers to choose a treatment that suits the person in front of her rather than defaulting to a favourite approach.
She’s spent 15 years as a dermal therapist in Australia, working closely with lasers and cosmeceutical brands. Muir also has extensive training in laser modalities, chemical peels and advanced skin technologies.
Muir came to skin care the way a lot of people in the industry do – after experiencing difficult skin. Struggling with her skin as a teenager was what first drew her to understanding how skin works and how to help others navigate the same frustrations. That personal experience with skin concerns – across different ages and stages – means she can relate to what patients are noticing with a wide range of concerns.
Muir enjoys working with peels, LED Light Therapy and loves the versatility of lasers – if someone isn’t suited to one modality, there are other laser options to explore that can meet their concerns.
Her consultations are straightforward. She takes time to understand what a patient actually wants – their timeline, tolerance for downtime, upcoming events, current skincare and budget – and builds a plan from there. Direct about what she thinks will work, Muir is equally upfront about what she doesn’t think will work. Her patients are encouraged to ask anything, and she believes a clear understanding of why a treatment is being recommended is as important as the treatment itself.
After two decades working with skin, Muir still finds the problem-solving the most engaging part – understanding why the skin is behaving the way it is and working out what makes sense for that individual.
When she’s not in clinic, family and friends fill her cup. Muir bakes and cooks with her kids, loves a walk by the ocean and can always be persuaded to enjoy a margarita – and fish and chips by the beach.
