Repairing Stretched, Gauged & Damaged Earlobes

Earlobe stretching is sometimes done intentionally (a practice called ear gauging), but it can also happen accidentally over time. Earlobes can develop large holes that can be bothersome and unpleasant with or without earrings it is the cost of wearing earrings for long periods of time. People who can benefit from earlobe stitching in Brisbane clinic are those who have injured their earlobe, altered it with a piercing or gauge, or are dissatisfied with a genetic condition.

The following factors contribute to earlobe stretching and damage:

– Earrings being entangled and then being pulled (typically long earrings snagging a dress or other clothing) or sometimes pulled on by children

– Heavy earrings worn over long periods of time
– Gauges placed in the earlobe, with increasing size, weight and time
– Multiple piercings too close together or too close to the bottom of the lobe
– Unanticipated trauma

How Does an Earlobe Reconstruction Work?

Earlobe tearing occurs when earrings become entangled and rip entirely through the earlobe. This not only gives the patient an unpleasant looking ear, but it also makes it hard for the patient to wear regular earrings again.
Earlobe repair in Brisbane is performed as an outpatient procedure in the clinic under local anaesthetic. Most patients can drive themselves home post-procedure.

The procedure takes 30-45 minutes depending on the complexity of the damage to each earlobe. After a detailed consent process, our cosmetic physician will administer a local anaesthetic to numb the area. The skin around the stretched lobe will be surgically revised under magnified vision, reshaping the ear back to its original contour. The specific technique used depends on the extent and complexity of your earlobe abnormality. Once scar and excess tissue are removed, the earlobe is sutured in place with ultra-fine stitches. A dressing is applied, and you follow up with our cosmetic physician in a week.

After five days, the sutures used to repair the skin during earlobe restoration are usually removed. If you want to pierce your ears again, you won’t be able to do it directly on the exact site since it will not be as strong as the skin around the repair.

The skin around the repair site will be just as strong as any other new untouched skin. It’s just the exact site that will be a little lower strength. Re-piercing in the area should not be done for at least three to six months.
