Are facials for men any different to women’s facials?
Yes – these men’s facials are tailored specifically to the unique attributes of male skin. Men’s skin naturally tends towards a higher pH level (more acidic) and it produces more sebum (oil) than female facial skin. It’s also thicker.
For these reasons, a men’s facial usually includes an exfoliating element, deep cleansing, and extraction – all to combat congestion and to penetrate the thicker male skin to reach the deeper layers.
How often should I be getting a facial?
There’s no compulsory frequency for having facials and they can be enjoyed often as part of your self-care and grooming routine.
If you have specific skin concerns or goals, it’s best to discuss this with your Skin & Laser Therapist so they can recommend an effective treatment plan for you.
It may be recommended to allow a few weeks between treatments to allow cell turnover, repair and rejuvenation to take effect. Or you may be advised to keep up your facial treatments on a regular basis to reach your complexion goals.
How long does a facial take?
Generally, having a facial treatment will take around 45 minutes to 1 hour.
This is to allow proper time for all elements of the treatment: deep cleansing, medical-grade exfoliation, steam extraction, de-puffing massage for lymphatic draining, and application of nourishing skincare.
These elements all work in harmony with one another, so it’s important that all stages be properly completed for best results.
Are there any products I should avoid leading up to or after my facial?
We recommend avoiding active ingredients in your skincare products for one week leading up to your facial treatment. These ingredients include AHAs or acids that work as chemical exfoliation or resurfacing actives.
We also recommend avoiding these same ingredients for around 7–10 days after your facial treatment, as the newly refreshed skin will be more sensitive to these types of products.
How long do the results last?
Results depend on how effectively you maintain them. You can prolong the results by using proper cosmeceutical skincare products in your at-home regimen.
Make sure you incorporate exfoliation into your weekly routine (but not for the first two weeks after your treatment) and be diligent with wearing sunscreen.
Don’t use any moisturisers or serums that contain comedogenic ingredients – these are the ones that block your pores, leading to congestion.
