How long do volumising treatments last?
Longevity will depend on the area treated, the approach selected based on your unique assessment, and the individual patient. Results vary from one person to another. Your cosmetic clinician will go through all of this as it relates to your unique situation in your consultation.
How to prepare for dermal volumisation?
Before dermal volumisation or face sculpting, make sure your face is free of skincare products or makeup.
Avoid taking blood-thinning medications for 1 week before treatment (unless prescribed by your GP/specialist).
How long before dermal volumisation settles?
Dermal enhancements usually take 1-2 weeks to settle into place. Over this period, any mild swelling that has occurred will also settle.
Do dermal enhancements show up on X-rays?
No, dermal enhancements don’t show up on X-rays.
However, if required, dermal volumisation can be visualised under ultrasound. Contour Clinics uses ultrasound to identify enhancements when deemed necessary for certain cases.
Do dermal enhancements move?
Volumising treatments can uncommonly migrate. In the unlikely event that they do, migration is more likely to occur in the local vicinity of treatment. In the rare case of migration, the cause is typically due to three factors:
- Excessive amounts of volume
- Poor technique
- Poor product selection

Can you mix dermal enhancement products?
Although we do not physically mix dermal enhancements pre-treatment, it’s perfectly fine to place different enhancements in the same area at the same time, or at different times.
For example, if you have had dermal enhancements A in your lips, it is perfectly fine to have dermal enhancements B in the lips at a separate time.
Are dermal enhancements painful?
Volumising treatments are generally well-tolerated, and at Contour Clinics, our treatment protocols are designed with comfort, safety and efficacy in mind.
Importantly, Contour Clinics only uses enhancements with a built-in local anaesthetic. This may be combined with ice packs, topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) and the option of a dental block or happy gas.
Can dermal enhancements be removed?
Yes, dermal enhancements may be dissolved in the case of complications or poor aesthetic outcomes.
