Where is the Dermamelan peel available?
Our entire range of skin treatments is offered in all Contour Clinics locations, so you can book in for your Dermamelan treatment at any of our clinics.
Is there any downtime after the treatment?
We recommend that you allow about two weeks after your treatment for the visible peeling effects to resolve.
You may feel some discomfort and tightness in your facial skin, along with visible redness (like sunburn) and some peeling or ‘shedding’ as your skin goes through the regenerative phase.
You might want to plan your treatment for when you don’t have any important dates or social events planned for the two weeks that follow your appointment.
How many Dermamelan peel treatments do I need?
Most patients achieve noticeable results with one treatment session.
In more severe cases of persistent or recurring hyperpigmentation, your treating Skin & Laser Therapist may recommend a repeat treatment, or even combine modalities.
The required number of treatments will vary depending on the individual and their unique concern or severity, as well as their skin type.
Individual results vary. Consult your Contour Clinics treating practitioner for expectations as they relate to your unique circumstances.
How effective is Dermamelan in treating melasma?
Dermamelan is widely recognised as one of the most effective non-surgical treatments for melasma, offering significant improvement for many individuals experiencing stubborn pigmentation. Clinical studies have demonstrated that Dermamelan treatment can visibly reduce melasma-related pigmentation, improve skin tone uniformity, and brighten overall complexion.
The treatment works by gently removing surface pigmentation and regulating the production of melanin, the pigment responsible for dark patches seen in melasma. While individual results can vary, many patients notice a substantial improvement in their skin’s appearance within weeks after their initial treatment.
During your consultation at Contour Clinics, your clinician will assess your specific skin concerns, explain realistic outcomes based on your unique skin type, and discuss how Dermamelan could specifically benefit your melasma condition.
Are there any precautions or side effects?
Dermamelan is a minimally invasive topical treatment that does not prevent you from following your daily life.
Your skin will start to feel tight, red and a bit swollen. Over the days that follow your treatment, the peeling or ‘shedding’ phase will start.
It’s common and entirely normal to experience this peeling and sensitivity, which lessen with the application of the recommended home skincare products.
What’s the difference between Dermamelan and Cosmelan?
Cosmelan and Dermamelan are both Mesoestetic treatment protocols that begin with an in-clinic chemical peel and continue with a prescribed at-home skincare routine.
Both treatments involve chemical exfoliation of the skin to reduce pigmentation, followed by preventative skincare to reduce the likelihood of pigmentation reappearing.
The main difference is that Cosmelan is not as potent as Dermamelan.
Cosmelan peels help to treat new, superficial mild to moderate pigmentation and signs of ageing.
Dermamelan is stronger and is designed to treat resistant hyperpigmentation to improve skin smoothness and radiant heath. We recommend Dermamelan for deep, stubborn, moderate to severe pigmentation.
Your dermal therapist will be able to discuss all possible treatment options with you and provide a personalised treatment plan.
