Now that you’ve had your dermal filler treatment, you want it to look incredible and stay that way for as long as possible.
So, it’s vital that you know how to optimise your results by following the correct dermal filler aftercare instructions.
This is the best way to achieve and maintain the best, longest lasting effects of your treatment.
What Should I Avoid After Dermal Fillers?
Directly After Your Treatment
Avoid for at least 8 hours after your dermal filler treatment:
- Makeup
- Touching the injection site
- Massaging the injection area, unless directed
- Lying on the injection area (try to sleep on your back)
Depending on the procedure and the particular area treated, very minor bruising may occur for some patients, although at Contour Clinics, our practitioners are experts at avoiding this risk.
If bruising does occur, you can improve this by lightly applying a covered ice pack to the treated area. Just make sure it’s for no longer than 10 minutes at a time, once per hour. Do not apply ice directly to the skin and do not apply excessive pressure.
Avoid for 24 hours after your dermal filler treatment:
- Strenuous exercise
- Alcohol
Avoid for at least 48 hours after your dermal filler treatment:
- Extreme heat (sun, solarium, sauna)
- Swimming
- Applying excessive pressure to the injection area
Avoid for at least a week after your dermal filler treatment:
- Facials
- Facial waxing
- Peels
- Dermabrasion
- IPL or laser therapies
How Do I Make My Fillers Last?
Your body will naturally break down fillers over time, but there is something you can do to keep the effects looking as fresh and prominent as possible: drink water!
Staying hydrated is by far one of the best things you can do to keep your fillers doing their job, which is to draw moisture to the treated area.
As fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid, which is already present in the human body, they tend to perform at their best when you are keeping your water intake properly topped up.
What Happens in the Months After Dermal Fillers?
The results of your dermal fillers will be seen immediately. However, after 2 weeks, the filler will have settled into the treated area and full results can be seen.
Dermal fillers usually last for anywhere between 6-12 months depending on the area being treated, the density of filler product being used, and the individual patient.
Once the fillers begin to be broken down and deplete, the treated area will return to its original pre-treated state. Fillers are naturally broken down by the body and this process is gradual and subtle. Your skin will not be stretched or changed permanently by the fillers.
However, if you wish to continue your new and improved look, maintenance will be required and repeat treatments are recommended for approximately every 6-12 months.
If you don’t keep up treatments, the area will go back to how it was prior to fillers.
