Veins around the Eyes
Veins around the eyes are called “periorbital veins” can be difficult to assess and treat. They are often a cause of concern for patients. These periorbital veins are superficial veins which surround the eye extending anywhere from the bridge of the nose and extend up to the forehead and scalp.
Contour Clinics uses two approaches to treat veins in this area. Very small veins that are blue or green and flat to the skin can be treated with our specialist ND Yag or Revlite laser to remove then.
However, larger veins around the eyes, that bulge the skin, are usually too big for laser treatment. We have found the best way to treat these is to remove them under local anaesthetic using sclerotherapy.
Some of our patients who have fair skin or are older may suffer from dilated and bulging veins around the eyes, temples, and forehead. Blue veins under the eyes or a swollen vein at the temple may be visible. Some people experience discomfort when the bulging periorbital veins are exposed to excessive heat, such as after a hot shower or in direct sunlight.
While some may not like the look of their protruding periorbital veins, they are generally asymptomatic and not the result of any underlying health condition. Despite this many people may want to remove the veins to improve their appearance.
The most successful and safest treatment for removing these laser veins around the eyes that cant be removed by laser is sclerotherapy. In the case of veins around the eyes the veins are visible and so direct or mini sclerotherapy is all that is needed to remove the vein. This treatment will eliminate visible periocular veins around the eyes without leaving visible scar tissue.
