Significant Improvements in Skin Quality of the Chin and Neck Area

The cost of liposuction under the chin and neck will vary usually depend on the amount of fat that needs to be removed. The type of anaesthetic chosen will affect the cost as this will often determine whether the procedure is performed in a private hospital or our accredited surgical operating room at our clinic.

Considerably shorter recovery time than other liposuction procedures The Procedure & Post Surgery

Liposuction on the chin area can be more difficult than other areas of the body because of where the fat is located. It is best to make sue an experienced plastic surgeon performs the procedure.

The procedure starts off with tiny incisions underneath the chin. Once the incision is made a local anaesthetic solution is then infiltrated under the skin and into the fat layer of the treatment area. This solution contains saline, local anaesthetic, and adrenaline. The adrenaline helps reduces bleeding and keeps the procedure safe. The solution then infiltrates the area making it bulge expanding the fat layer allowing for an easy passage of the cannula and fat removal. The cannula is passed through the fat layer removing fat in a systemic process. Suction is provided in a gentle manner for this part of the body through a syringe to remove of the fat.

The desired result is very reliant on the surgeon’s ability to assess the level for fat thickness and evenness. His level of aesthetic knowledge and training as well as the unique ability to contour the body and bring it into perfect alignment. At Contour Surgical we only use experienced Plastic Surgeons to do our Liposuction Procedures. Plastic Surgeons have done 6 years of additional training and are accredited at the highest level of accreditation in Australia. It provides all our patients with the comfort and the safety that they are being treated by the most qualified and experienced surgeons that country has to offer.

During all our surgical procedures we use invisible stitched or sutures. These invisible stitches are used to close the initial incisions made. In some cases, they incisions are left open for drainage of the anaesthetic solution.

Your Chin Liposuction Recovery

Your procedure will be either performed in our private hospital or our purpose built in clinic operating theatre. Regardless of the location chosen you will return home on the same day.

After surgery has finished you will be seen by one of our nurses and they will make sure you are awake and comfortable. Our nurse will place a compression garment under the chin area once you are comfortable. The compression garment will help minimise swelling, bruising, and bleeding. The bandage provides support and comfort and holds the treated areas of the body in place. It is important to remember the garment is vital for the healing process and outcome of the procedure. The bandage should be worn continually for the first 72 hours after the procedure.

The recovery process from chin liposuction is much quicker than other forms of liposuction and you can return to your normal activities in 1-2 days after the procedure. You will generally have some mild bruising and discomfort. We will help the recovery process with a follow up lymphatic massage at our clinic

Patients are encouraged to walk and move around as often as possible post-surgery. This will assist in eliminate the stiffness experienced after your procedure. You will most likely notice that fluid will leak from the incision sites. The fluid will be clear or slightly red in colour. This is the tumescent solution and is no cause for alarm. The leaking usually lasts for about 48 hours. Postoperative leaking from the surgical sites is completely normal and should be expected.

Swelling and bruising start on the second day. Most of this swelling and bruising will go away inside two weeks. Patients will see their final of results in four to six weeks

You will need to attend a post-surgery follow up three days after your procedure and then again at three weeks if necessary. We also provide a lymphatic massage post-surgery to aid recovery and reduce swelling.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the procedure take to complete?

Under Chin Liposuction Procedures take around one hour to complete.

Will I feel any pain during my under-chin liposuction procedure?

We offer both Private Hospital and in Clinic Liposuction at Contour Surgical. If you choose to have your procedure done at a Private Hospital you will be under general anaesthetic and will not feel any pain.

If you choose to use our purpose built in clinic operating theatre the procedure will be done under twilight sedation. This uses both local anaesthetic and medications to reduce pain to a manageable level. If at any stage, you are not comfortable we can help by increasing your pain medications to help.

When do I see my results?

You will notice an improvement immediately after your chin liposuction procedure. However, over the next 48 hours you will have swelling and it will take up to 2-4 weeks for the swelling to subside and the skin to tighten and retract. From 4 weeks onwards you can expect your results to gradually improve with full results being seen at around 6 weeks. In some cases full results may take up to 3 months.

Are the results from under chin liposuction permanent?

Once you reach your late teenage years your body has the total amount of fat cells it will ever have. These fat cells can then only expand or shrink in size.

As the liposuction procedure removes fat cells in the area once they are gone, they are gone for good and never return. If you gain weight the weight is more likely to be evenly distributed on the body and go to different areas. In order to maintain your results, it is recommended to follow a healthy diet and exercise plan.

Will I have scarring?

Liposuction involves making incisions in the skin, which means scarring is inevitable. However significant scarring is rare. The incisions made for the procedure are always small and in discreet locations.

At Contour Surgical we offer best in class laser treatments to remove any scarring after the procedure. We provide a complimentary scar removal treatment for all our liposuction patients. We find that after our scar management and removal laser than any scarring is removed or fades to become not noticeable.

What are the Risks & Complications of Liposuction to the Under Chin Area?

Under chin Liposuction when done correctly by an experienced surgeon is a safe and effective procedure that can produce outstanding and life changing results. As with any surgical procedure, there are also risks associated with the procedure as well as benefits.

To better understand that risks and complications involved it is best to break these down into medical complications and surgical risks.

Medical Complications from the procedure are

  • Pain and aching
  • Bruising
  • Bleeding or a Haematoma (a collection of blood under the skin)
  • Infection very uncommon due to a sterile field being maintained during the procedure and antibiotics given after the procedure
  • Persistent Swelling
  • A Seroma or Fluid accumulation under the skin
  • Deep Vein Thrombosis (this is a complication from any surgery where movement post-surgery is reduced. It is extremely rare)

Surgical Risks from the Procedure are

  • Skin Irregularities. This occurs from poor liposuction technique by either over or under liposuctioning or by liposuctioning at the wrong skin depth.
  • Missed Areas – Occurs when the area surrounding a large area is missed
  • Skin Laxity – If a surgeon over liposuctions a particular the skin in this area may not be able to retract enough. If the skin is extremely loose to start with the risk of this increases. If the risk of this happening is very high, we may recommend doing the procedure over two sessions. This will give the skin a far greater ability to retract correctly.

These risks can usually be managaed via a small touch up procedure to correct any cosmetic problems. Fat transfer can be used to treat over liposuctioning and additional liposuction can be used to treat under liposuctioning.

When choosing liposuction, it is always recommended to choose a skilled experienced surgeon with the proper qualifications. This ensures that most complications can be reduced or avoided.

Can I exercise after Under Chin Liposuction?

A common question from patients is “When can I resume exercise post chin liposuction”?

We recommend walking and moving around 48 hours after your surgery. Light cardio and exercise can be resumed after 2 days, and then more intense workouts can resume after two weeks. Full training is not recommended until 4 weeks after your liposuction procedure

Can I drink alcohol after liposuction?

We recommend not drinking alcohol post-surgery for safety reasons because of its interaction with pain medications and antibiotics.

It is recommended to avoid drinking for at least 5 days after surgery to prevent any chance of excessive bruising or bleeding.
