Permanently removes large amounts of fat

Our plastic surgeons at Contour Surgical have been performing mega liposuction procedures on the body for over 20 years.

The cost of liposuction will vary from patient to patient depending on the amount of fat to be removed and how many body areas you wish it to be removed from.

Advanced Form of Liposuction Steps in Having Liposuction

The Consultation

All our consultations take place in one of our Contour Clinics consult rooms. Here you will meet with one of our Plastic Surgeons. Our surgeon will discuss with you your medical history, allergies, past procedures, weight, and body shape.

During a mega liposuction consultation, we will provide you with an estimate with the amount of fat that can be safely removed from your body. Your surgeon will assess your body shape, fat distribution and skin elasticity. We will need to measure your body circumference and skin fold thickness. We can also take 3D photographs of your body and give you a computerised 3D image of what you can achieve, and you can decide on what ideal outcomes you will like. It is this part of the process that our patients enjoy the most as they can have direct input into the areas of the body they are looking for the greatest change.

During the consultation process you will also be fitted and measured for a compression garment that you must wear after the procedure.

Choice of Anaesthetic for the Procedure

Mega Liposuction at Contour Surgical is only performed in a fully accredited private hospital.

The procedure is done under general anaesthetic

General Anaesthetic – General Anaesthetic is performed by a specialist anaesthetic doctor. You are asleep during the mega liposuction procedure, and this allows your surgeon to perform the procedure in the easiest manner. We do all our general anaesthetic liposuction is fully accredited private hospitals.

The Procedure

After you arrive you will have a final consultation with your surgeon before your liposuction procedure. Your surgeon will discuss what will happen right before the surgery and after the surgery as well as mark up your body for the procedure

Mega Liposuction is best performed via tumescent liposuction. This allows for the largest volume of fat to be removed and is the safest technique to perform. The procedure starts off with tiny incisions being made in the skin. A local anaesthetic solution is then infiltrated under the skin and into the fat layer of the treatment area. This solution contains saline, local anaesthetic and adrenaline. The adrenaline helps reduces bleeding and keeps the procedure safe. The solution then infiltrates the area making it bulge expanding the fat layer allowing for an easy passage of the cannula and fat removal. The cannula is passed through the fat layer removing fat in a systemic process. First fat is removed from the deep fat tissue, then the middle layer of fat and lastly the superficial layer of fat. Suction is provided through a machine or syringe to aid in the removal of the fat.

The desired result is very reliant on the surgeon’s ability to assess the level for fat thickness and evenness. His level of aesthetic knowledge and training as well as the unique ability to contour the body and bring it into perfect alignment. At Contour Surgical we only use experienced Plastic Surgeons to do our Liposuction Procedures. Plastic Surgeons have done 6 years of additional training and are accredited at the highest level of accreditation in Australia. It provides all our patients with the comfort and the safety that they are being treated by the most qualified and experienced surgeons that country has to offer.

During all our surgical procedures we use invisible stitched or sutures. These invisible stitches are used to close the initial incisions made. In some cases, they incisions are left open for drainage of the anaesthetic solution.

A special compression garment is worn immediately after the procedure. The compression garment is recommended for at least 6 weeks depending on the and helps reduce swelling, bruising, and importantly help the skin retract after the removal of the fat.

Recovery & Post Procedure

After surgery has finished you will be seen by one of our nurses and they will make sure you are awake and comfortable. Our nurse will place you into your compression garment once you are comfortable. The compression garment will help minimise swelling, bruising, and bleeding. The garment provides support and comfort and holds the treated areas of the body in place. It is important to remember the garment is vital for the healing process and outcome of the procedure. The garment should be worn continually for the first two weeks and only be removed for showering. During weeks three and four, the garment only needs to be worn during the day. Weeks five and six it needs to be worn at night only. It is important that you lay the garment smoothly on the body, especially the stomach area. Creasing of the garment will create a collection of fluid around the crease, which can be difficult and time consuming to resolve.

The recovery process generally has some mild bruising and discomfort. We will help the recovery process with follow up lymphatic massages at our clinic. You may return to work at the earliest five days after surgery. Most patients plan to take at least one week off work.

Patients are encouraged to walk and move around as often as possible post-surgery. This will assist in eliminate the stiffness experienced after your procedure. You will most likely notice that fluid will leak from the incision sites. The fluid will be clear or slightly red in colour. This is the tumescent solution and is no cause for alarm. The leaking usually lasts for about 72 hours due to such a large volume of fat being removed. These areas can leak for up to seven days. Postoperative leaking from the surgical sites is completely normal and should be expected.

Swelling and bruising start on the second day. Most of this swelling and bruising will go away inside two weeks. Patients will see most of their results in six weeks and will continue to see results for up to six months.

You will need to attend a post-surgery follow up three days after your procedure and then again at three weeks and six weeks. We also provide lymphatic massages post-surgery to aid recovery and reduce swelling. We recommend two massages twice per week for the first two weeks.

Mega Liposuction is really the start to your weight loss journey. After the procedure the key to maintaining long term results is to follow and keep a healthy lifestyle. After your procedure exercise will become a little easier. To maintain long term results from this procedure it is essential to follow a healthy eating and exercise plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the procedure take to complete?

Mega Liposuction Procedures take between four and six hours to complete depending on the amount of areas involved and the amount of fat to be removed.

Will I feel any pain during my liposuction procedure?

No as the procedure is done in a Private hospital under general anaesthetic you will not feel any pain

When do I see my results?

You will notice an improvement immediately after your mega liposuction procedure. However, over the next 48 hours you will have swelling and it will take up to 4-6 weeks for the swelling to subside

Are the results from mega liposuction permanent?

Once you reach your late teenage years your body has the total amount of fat cells it will ever have. These fat cells can then only expand or shrink in size.

As the liposuction procedure removes fat cells in the area once they are gone, they are gone for good and never return. If you gain weight the weight is more likely to be evenly distributed on the body and go to different areas. In order to maintain your results it is recommended to follow a healthy diet and exercise plan.

What are the Risks & Complications of Mega Liposuction?

Mega Liposuction when done correctly by an experienced surgeon is a safe and effective procedure that can produce outstanding and life changing results. As with any surgical procedure, there are also risks associated with the procedure as well as benefits.

To better understand that risks and complications involved it is best to break these down into medical complications and surgical risks.

Medical Complications from the procedure are

  • Pain and aching
  • Bruising
  • Bleeding or a Haematoma (a collection of blood under the skin)
  • Infection very uncommon due to a sterile field being maintained during the procedure and antibiotics given after the procedure
  • Persistent Swelling
  • A Seroma or Fluid accumulation under the skin
  • Deep Vein Thrombosis (this is a complication from any surgery where movement post-surgery is reduced. It is extremely rare)

Surgical Risks from the Procedure are

  • Skin Irregularities. This occurs from poor liposuction technique by either over or under liposuctioning or by liposuctioning at the wrong skin depth.
  • Missed Areas – Occurs when the area surrounding a large area is missed
  • Skin Laxity – If a surgeon over liposuctions a particular the skin in this area may not be able to retract enough. If the skin is extremely loose to start with the risk of this increases. If the risk of this happening is very high, we may recommend doing the procedure over two sessions. This will give the skin a far greater ability to retract correctly.

These risks can usually be managaed via a small touch up procedure to correct any cosmetic problems. Fat transfer can be used to treat over liposuctioning and additional liposuction can be used to treat under liposuctioning.

When choosing liposuction, it is always recommended to choose a skilled experienced surgeon with the proper qualifications. This ensures that most complications can be reduced or avoided.

Can I exercise after Mega Liposuction?

We recommend walking and moving around 48 hours after your surgery. Light cardio and exercise can be recommended after 7 days, and then more intense workouts can resume after four weeks.

Can I drink alcohol after Mega liposuction?

We recommend not drinking alcohol post-surgery for safety reasons because of its interaction with pain medications and antibiotics.

It is recommended to avoid drinking for at least 5 days after surgery to prevent any chance of excessive bruising or bleeding.
