When can I go home after my breast augmentation procedure?
Most of our patients having undergone our Ultra-Fast Recovery breast augmentation go home the day of surgery, where they have a support person at home to take care of them for the first 24 hours.
You may choose to stay overnight post-surgery or go home the same day.
Upon leaving the hospital you will be provided with emergency contact information in case of any rare issues once you are at home, pain medication to ensure complete comfort and antibiotics to reduce the already rare risk of postoperative infection.
When is my post-operative check-up appointment?
Your complimentary check-up appointment will be scheduled at around 1 week post procedure. At this time our specialist surgical team will check your progress, review your incision sites, and start our exclusive scar reduction, massage and exercise protocol.
Can I shower after my breast augmentation procedure?
Waterproof dressings are applied at the time of surgery so you may shower immediately after surgery. Dressings are removed at your review appointment 3-4 days post procedure.
How long will bruising take to settle?
The majority of your bruising will settle in 5-6 days post procedure. Contour Clinics use a specialised LED light spectrum to reduce bruising and speed healing in your post-operative period.
When will I be able to resume exercise after my breast augmentation?
The Contour Clinics Ultra-fast recovery techniques have you back to your normal routine in the shortest time possible.
Time frames to return to your normal activities include:
- Neck exercises to start immediately
- Activities requiring the arms to be lifted above the head should be avoided for 10 days
- Driving can usually commence 10-14 days post procedure
- Walking small distances in 4-7 days
- Gym 6 weeks (upper body weights 7-8 weeks)
- Contact sports 12 weeks
These timeframes may vary based on your progress post operatively. Your Plastic Surgeon will discuss activities that are suitable throughout your post-operative course during your complimentary post-operative reviews.
What can I expect during my breast augmentation recovery?
The Contour Clinics team will be with you every step of the way in your recovery process. We pride ourselves on having the best aftercare support in the Country. We have an online support team available from 7am-midnight 7 days a week, along with an expert team available via phone during business hours.
Swelling and bruising is normal post operatively. This can be asymmetrical and will resolve in 2-3 weeks. If there is significant asymmetry, or a rapid swelling develops please inform our staff immediately.
Your implants may appear to be sitting high on the chest initially. This is normal and will settle to lower more natural positions in the weeks following your surgery. Occasionally, one may settle quicker than the other leaving a mild asymmetry. This is normal and will settle with time.
Dressings are left intact until your review appointment where our surgical team will inspect to ensure you are healing as expected. At this point, the Contour Clinics scar reduction process starts with a combination of gels/strips and after a few weeks a course of laser treatments. Contour Clinics are the country’s leading experts in scar reduction.
Can I still breastfeed normally after breast augmentation?
Yes. Breast augmentation does not interfere with breastfeeding. Communication between the breast tissue and the nipple is not damaged during the breast augmentation procedure. This means you can breastfeed normally.
Does breast augmentation cause a loss of sensation to the nipple?
Our Specialist Plastic Surgeons led by our Surgical Director Dr Jeremy Hunt use techniques proven over decades of experience to preserve nipple sensation. Loss of sensation is rare in the hands of an experienced Plastic Surgeon.
Does breast augmentation interfere with mammograms?
Post breast augmentation mammogram settings need to be subtly altered in order to get correct views of breast tissue. This is very common. With the correct mammogram settings, the detection of breast cancer is not decreased in the presence of a breast implant.
Do breast implants need to be changed every 10 years?
Implants do not need to be changed at the 10-year mark unless there is an issue with the implant. We recommend a clinical review with your plastic surgeon 10 years post-surgery to ensure there are no complications with your implant.
Not uncommon reasons for change at the 10-year mark include:
- Weight loss
- Weight gain
Uncommon/Rare reasons may include:
- Capsular contraction
- Implant migration
When will I see the end result of my breast augmentation procedure?
Final results are usually visible around 6-12 weeks post procedure. At this point your implants should have settled to their final position and swelling should be all but resolved.
