Eyelid Surgery with Specialist Surgeons

It is an invasive surgical procedure that removes sagging skin that hangs around the eyelid.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the procedure?

Blepharoplasty is a straightforward procedure that simply removes any excess skin and, in some cases, fat tissue from your eyelids to correct any unevenness.

Blepharoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia. You will need to be fasted for about 4-6 hours prior to surgery to avoid complications with any anaesthetic medication.

After the full effect of the anaesthetic has taken place, a small incision is made within your natural eyelid crease, where scarring will be hidden well in your natural folds. Excess skin is cut away and muscles may be re positioned. Your remaining skin is then lifted and the incision is closed with sutures. Surgical tape and dressings are used to conceal the sutures and protect the incisions.

What is the recovery process?

After your surgery you are allowed to go home accompanied by another adult when the anaesthetic medication wears off. Overnight hospital stays are not mandatory.

There will be some visible bruising swelling and redness around the incision site, which usually subsides about 1 – 2 weeks after the operation. You may also experience some sensitivity, blurred vision and watery eyes. Keeping your head elevated and using cool compress can significantly reduce swelling and bruising.

Usually patients can return to normal day to day tasks within 1 – 2 weeks post-surgery. However, it is strongly recommended that any physical activity or exercise should be avoided in the first two weeks post-surgery to avoid any possible infections or suture tears.

In your initial consultation, we will provide you with a detailed recovery action plan to ensure you are comfortable during your recovery. He will prescribe you specific medication and provide specific instructions to follow to take off any stress and ensure a speedy, pleasant recovery period.
