The procedure starts off with tiny incisions being made in the skin. A local anaesthetic solution is then infiltrated under the skin and into the fat layer of the treatment area. This solution contains saline, local anaesthetic and adrenaline. The adrenaline helps reduces bleeding and keeps the procedure safe. The solution then infiltrates the area making it bulge expanding the fat layer allowing for an easy passage of the cannula and fat removal. The cannula is passed through the fat layer removing fat in a systemic process. Suction is provided through a machine or syringe to aid in the removal of the fat.
The desired result is very reliant on the surgeon’s ability to assess the level for fat thickness and evenness. His level of aesthetic knowledge and training as well as the unique ability to contour the body and bring it into perfect alignment. At Contour Surgical we only use experienced Plastic Surgeons to do our Arm Liposuction Procedures. Plastic Surgeons have done 6 years of additional training and are accredited at the highest level of accreditation in Australia. It provides all our patients with the comfort and the safety that they are being treated by the most qualified and experienced surgeons that country has to offer.
During all our surgical procedures we use invisible stitched or sutures. These invisible stitches are used to close the initial incisions made. In some cases, they incisions are left open for drainage of the anaesthetic solution.
A special compression garment is worn immediately after the procedure. The compression garment is recommended for 2 weeks and helps reduce swelling, bruising, and importantly help the skin retract after the removal of the fat.
Your Arm Liposuction Recovery
Your procedure will be performed in our purpose built in clinic operating room. As the procedure only requires a local anaesthetic you can comfortably drive home after the procedure.
After surgery our nurse will put on your compression garment once you are comfortable. The compression garment will help minimise swelling, bruising, and bleeding. The garment provides support and comfort and holds the treated area of the arm in place. It is important to remember the garment is vital for the healing process and outcome of the procedure. The garment should be worn continually for the first two weeks.
The recovery process generally has some mild bruising and discomfort. We will help the recovery process with a follow up lymphatic massage at our clinic.
Patients are encouraged to walk and move around as often as possible post-surgery. This will assist in eliminate the stiffness experienced after your procedure. You will most likely notice that fluid will leak from the incision sites. The fluid will be clear or slightly red in colour. This is the tumescent solution and is no cause for alarm. The leaking usually lasts for about 72 hours with arm liposuction. Postoperative leaking from the surgical sites is completely normal and should be expected.
Swelling and bruising start on the second day. Most of this swelling and bruising will go away inside two weeks. Patients will see most of their results in six weeks and will continue to see results for up to six months.
You will need to attend a post-surgery follow up three days after your procedure and then again at three weeks if necessary. We also provide lymphatic massages post-surgery to aid recovery and reduce swelling.
